Umunyinya Theatre Company : three months of hard work...

Day-long rehearsals, trying new stage management, buying new props... and that repeatedly for every time the comedians had to go for a performance, this is what your theatre company lived these past days. Three months of sweat, joy and hard work.

August, September and October were extremely tough months for Umunyinya Theater Company. The Zenith of Madness, a play by Rivardo Niyonizigiye is one of the works that served almost the overall of that time. This play is one of the most humoristic and tragic plays he has ever written. It’s a real mixture of joy and sorrow, laughter and cry, sympathy and rejection as incarnated by the three comedians on stage: two politicians and one lady representing citizens.
Performed four times in Burundi, once both in Uganda and Rwanda, that play has been selected for Ngoma festival in Kisangani (DRC) on the 1st of September 2018. The rehearsals of this performance have been the hardest: From 8 am till 8 pm for more than a month was an obligation to the comedians.

This work has been a fragrant success that brought the team to forget about all what they have endured to record that achievement. They have succeeded to touch the hearts of many thanks to the inputs they have got from Odile Sankara and Aristide Tarnagda. “I loved your performance with all my heart…I cannot imagine how you guys manage to pronounce as such and keep your audience with you with such energy”, said Solange, a fellow comedian from Seringu’Art in Lubumbashi. It was a breathtaking performance with a strong comedian who astonished the audience with her capacity of being frank in her actions and emotions. On the September 28th, Umunyinya was invited to perform this very performance in FESTBUK (Festival de Bukavu).
They are still working on the same project for future programs, various theatre presentations for young audience, and community theatre projects for which you will be very soon informed. As says Arthur Ban, “We’ll stop when we have nowhere to go; we will always have where to go as far as the heart is beating. The sky is the limit”.
